Artist Marita Parisi
Marita's formative years were spent in Canada. She graduated from Sir Wilfred Laurier University (Waterloo, Ontario), then pursued various studies in Literature, Language and Education at McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario) and the University of Toronto. Sixteen years of teaching adolescents taught her about self-discipline, communication and concentration, experience she now brings to her career in drawing.
Marita has had no formal artistic training; in fact, she began drawing in 1985 with no background in art whatsoever. Since then she has taught herself about art and drawing from books, magazines, films, museums, art galleries and other artists.

With her devotion to detail, it will come as no surprise that among her favorite artists are Andrew Wyeth, Robert Bateman, Carl Brenders, Raymond Harris-Ching and Paul Calle. Marita has experimented with watercolor, acrylic, oil and pastel, but her first love is pencil. Drawing in pencil is going against the mainstream of the art world where painting is more acceptable and rewarded. But this does not stop Parisi's experimentation with a medium that has so much versatility and potential.

Parisi says simply that she draws because she loves to draw.

Although Marita began by drawing wildlife, a subject she still avidly pursues, her passion also is in depicting faces. The challenge is to capture a universal essence and mood rather than to depict a specific individual. It is this universality that she sees in the strong, stoical, enduring quality of Native Americans which dominate so much of her work.
